West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today catcher Joe Bowen's move to the disabled list due to a hyperextended elbow. The move is retroactive to April 10. Adrian Casanova was called up from extended spring training to fill the empty roster spot.

Bowen was hitting just .111 (2-for-18) with no home runs and one RBI through four games and had not played since the Whitecaps last home game on April 9. The switch-hitting catcher from Ocala, Fla., was selected by the Tigers in the 12th round of the 2006 draft and is in his third season of professional baseball.

Casanova has seen limited action in two seasons with the Tigers organization. The Miami, Fla., native split time between short-season Oneonta (21 games) and High-A Lakeland (27 games) in 2007. He has a .188 (44-for-234) batting average and 25 RBIs in 75 career minor league games. Casanova was drafted by the Tigers in the 40th round in 2006 after playing two seasons at Clemson University.

The Whitecaps return home to Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, April 18 to begin a six-game homestand against the Burlington Bees and Beloit Snappers.
