Bees Lose Finale with Loons

Burlington, IA (April 14, 2008) The Burlington Bees opened a three-game series with the Lansing Lugnuts by winning 6-2 Monday night at Community Field. The Bees pounded out four runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to their four-run victory. Midwest League pitcher of the week Danny Gutierrez picked up his first win as he pitched five innings and allowed just two runs.

The Bees scored more than three runs in an inning for the first time this season with the four runs that scored in the bottom of the first inning. The Inning feature four hits and an RBI each for Jason Taylor, Shawn Hayes and Ryan Eigsti. A walk and an error helped extend the inning as the Bees never looked back after the first inning.

Lansing was able to score a run in both the third and fourth innings to close the gap to 4-2. The Bees got their four-run lead back in the fifth inning. With two men on and one out, Jamar Walton hit a double to clear the bases.

Gutierrez pitched five innings and allowed the two runs on four hits with eight strikeouts. Yensi Lopez pitched three innings of no-hit baseball before Tony Bradley finished the game out in the ninth.

The Bees will go for the series victory on Tuesday night. Matt Mitchell will take the mound for the Bees. First pitch is set for 6:30 and the game can be heard on KBUR. Tickets are still available by logging on to www.GoBees.com or by calling (319) 754-5705.
