Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips were shutout by the Regina Pats 3-0 on Friday night, November 23rd, at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center. Leland Irving made 27 saves in goal for the Silvertips but it wasn't enough as the Everett offense couldn't find a solution to Regina goaltender Linden Rowatt. The Silvertips loss drops their record to 14-12-0-1 (29 pts.) and holds them in third place in the U.S Division.
The first period played out with no score thanks Everett's penalty killing abilities. After allowing four power play goals in their previous game, the Silvertips killed off all four Regina man advantages throughout the period. That included two separate 5-on-3 opportunities; giving up just five shots on goal while shorthanded.
However, it was a carryover power play into the second period on which Regina scored the first of their trio of goals. At the 1:43 mark, Troy Ofukany received credit for a goal that came amidst a scramble within the Everett crease. It appeared as though that would be the extent of the visiting team's offense for the period until a late goal by Cody Gross came at 19:40.
The Silvertips were unable to cut into the Pats lead throughout the duration of the contest despite three power plays in the third period. It was on the last of their advantages that Jared Jagow scored shorthanded at 17:30 to complete the scoring. One slight spark of energy that did arise for Everett came early in the third period when Silvertips defenseman Jeff Regier dropped the gloves with Pats forward Troy Ofukany. The center ice tilt was a complement to a tremendous game played out by the recently recalled d-man whose efforts earned him a spot in the game's "three stars".
The Silvertips finish up their week on the road tomorrow night against the Seattle Thunderbirds. Game time at Key Arena is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The team will then spend most of next week idle before against facing off against the Thunderbirds, this time it will be at home at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center. Face-off is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
