South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays, ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the NHL and the Hershey Bears of the AHL, announced today that rookie forwards Marty Guerin and Travis Morin have been assigned to the club.
Guerin, 24, spent the last four years at Miami of Ohio University, collecting 94 points (44g, 50a) and 72 penalty minutes in 140 career collegiate games.
"I saw him up in Hershey's camp and he looked good," Bednar said. "He's a guy that has the ability to put up some good offensive numbers for us. He moves pretty well and he's smart with the puck. I think he'll fit in nicely with our lineup."
Prior to joining the RedHawks, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound forward played three years in the USHL with Omaha and Des Moines, producing 49 goals and 66 assists for 115 points in 156 contests. Following his USHL stint, he was selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the 9th round (274th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Morin, 23, joined the Stingrays this past March following the conclusion of his senior season at Minnesota State University-Mankato, where he accumulated 133 points (58g, 75a) in 151 games. He led the Mavericks with 39 and 42 points, respectively, during his junior and senior years.
"He gained some good experience with us at the end of last year," Bednar said. "He can play in all situations for us. I'm excited to get him down here. Hopefully he can continue to develop and work for a spot in Hershey next year."
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound center made his professional debut March 18, pocketing the game-winning goal in a 3-2 win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots. In eight contests for South Carolina, the 6-2, 195-pound native of Brooklyn Park, MN tallied two goals and an assist for three points. Originally, he was the Capitals' 9th round pick (263rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
