Young Assures Defensive Depth

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that Seamus Young will join the Nailers this season.

Young, 24, will play his second professional season in Wheeling after playing in all 72 games last year and 6 playoff games for the Victoria Salmon Kings. The offensive defenseman scored nine goals and 13 assists while recording 33 penalty minutes in the regular season.

It was his first full season as a professional after getting a taste, playing nine games, in 2005-06 with the Trenton Titans.

"Seamus is a solid player on both ends of the ice," said Nailers President Jim Brooks. "He was a constant presence for Victoria last year and that is the role we expect him to fill for us this year."

He played his collegiate hockey at Princeton University from 2002-06, appearing in 109 games during his career. Young registered 47 points (8g, 39a) finishing on a high note with 18 points in his senior year.

The 6-foot-2-inch native of Dedham, MA adds further depth to a talented defensive corps in Wheeling. Seven defenseman are slated to attend training camp for the Nailers which opens on Saturday at WesBanco Arena.

The Nailers will open the ECHL's 20th Anniversary season with a game against the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 18th. It will be a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals. Wheeling will open their home schedule on Oct. 26 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
