
Steelheads Open Camp Tomorrow With 22 Players

BOISE, Idaho - The defending ECHL Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads will open training camp with 22 players on its roster. Players officially report on Friday for the team's eleventh season. The Opening Day roster must be set by 3:00 p.m., October 17th and may have up to 20 active players on it; four of them may be veterans.
Camp begins at Qwest Arena in Boise and ends in McCall at the Manchester Ice and Events Centre with two preseason games against the Central Hockey League's Wichita Thunder on October 12th and 13th.
The roster, comprised of 12 forwards, 8 defenseman and 2 goalies, breaks down as follows:
Forwards Mark Bomersback, Kyle Bruce, Matt Craig, Taggart Desmet, Marty Flichel (veteran), Lance Galbraith (veteran), Liam Huculak, Alexander Naurov, Greg Rallo, Brent Shepheard, Colin Sinclair, and Mike Sullivan.
Defensemen J.S. Adam, Craig Cescon, Blake Forsyth, Darrell Hay (veteran), Jeremy Scherlinck, Kory Scoran, Evan Stoflet, and Travis Wight.
Goaltenders Kellen Briggs and John Daigneau.
Eleven players are returning from last year's team, including: Bruce, Desmet, Flichel, Galbraith, Rallo, Forsyth, Hay, Scoran, Wight, Naurov, and Daigneau.
Adam, Naurov and Scherlinck were assigned to Idaho from its American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Stars, this week following the AHL training camp with more expected in the coming days.
Thirteen of the players are rookies, with eight attending their first professional training camps after playing college hockey last season. There are six American-born players. The most players hail from the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Ontario (four each), and there are three from Coach Derek Laxdal's home province of Manitoba. There is only one non-North American on the Idaho roster (Russia).
The Steelheads will unveil the 2007 Kelly Cup Championship banner at the 2007-08 season home opener on Friday, October 19th against the Victoria Salmon Kings.
