Portland Sea Dogs News Release
(Akron, OH) - Akron scored seven unanswered runs to take the middle game of the series from the Portland Sea Dogs, 10-4 on Saturday at Canal Park in front of 4,871. The Sea Dogs (29-27) have dropped three of five on their six day trip and look for the series win on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Bowden (2-2) suffered his second straight loss, allowing a career-high, eight runs in 3+ innings on 10 hits. Bowden left the game after Jordan Brown's 3-run triple in the fourth inning, giving Akron an 8-4 advantage. Armando Camacaro led off the inning with a solo homer to tie the game at four - the first Double-A long ball allowed by Bowden.
Joe Ness (4-0) worked 5 and 1/3 innings on seven hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and one strikeout to earn the win for Akron. Major Leaguer Cliff Politte (rehab - rotator cuff injury) made the start for the Aeros and lasted only 2/3 of an inning, allowing one run on two walks and a single. Eric Crozier gave Portland an early 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and tied the game at two with an RBI single in the third.
Camacaro was the offensive leader for the Aeros, going 3-for-5, HR and 5 RBI, playing in his first game of the season. The Akron catcher smacked a two-run double in the second inning, putting Akron in front 2-1 and lined a two-run single for the game's final two runs in the sixth.
Portland scored twice in the fourth inning to take their final lead of the game. Bryan Pritz tied the game with a run-scoring infield single. On the same play, Akron shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera threw the ball away, allowing Andrew Pinckney to score the go ahead run.
Jed Lowrie singled in his first at-bat to extend his on-base streak to 38 straight games, currently the second longest streak (Mitchell Hillgoss, 45 straight for Charleston of the South Atlantic League) in Minor League Baseball. Lowrie has tied Alex Romero's (New Britain) streak of 38 straight games in 2005 for the longest streak in the Eastern League.
