Trenton Thunder News Release
Reading, PA -- For a second straight night, the Trenton Thunder had their way with the home team, Saturday by a whopping 7-1 verdict.
Also for a second straight night, the Thunder got terrific starting pitching. This time it was Jason Jones (4-4) who shut down the league's most potent lineup. The big right-hander allowed a run and five hits over seven innings.
Good news for the Phillies? Well, Jesus Merchan pushed his hitting streak to 16 games with a third-inning single through the box, and Randy Ruiz stroked a pair of hits. Also, Julio De La Cruz struck out six in four innings of sterling relief, and Matt Padgett knocked in the only run with a single in the seventh.
The Thunder (38-21) scored early and often off Chris Rojas (1-1), whose wildness put him in a deep hole. Two walks preceded an Aarom Baldiris home run in the second. Rojas wasn't damaged by two more walks in the third, but the Thunder jumped on him for three more runs in the fourth. Rojas, who walked six, needed 106 pitches to make it through five innings.
The Phillies (28-33) have allowed 21 runs in losing three straight.
