Jones Pitching, Home Runs Equals 7-1 Win

(Reading, PA)- seven strong innings from starter Jason Jones, supported by a pair of home runs, led the Trenton Thunder to a 7-1 win over the Reading Phillies on Saturday night. The Thunder are now 10-1 in games played on Saturday and 22-8 in games on the weekend

Trenton (38-21) took the lead in the 2nd Inning off Reading starter Chris Rojas. He walked back-to-back batters with one out and saw 3B Aarom Baldiris launch a three-run homer to left field for a 3-0 lead.The Thunder doubled their lead in the 4th Inning on RBI singles by LF Justin Christian and SS Ramiro Pena, along with a sacrifice fly from 2B Gabe Lopez. Rojas (1-1) took the loss allowing six runs in five innings on four hits. He walked six and struck out five.

Jones (4-4) did not work a 1-2-3 inning on the night, but Reading, with baserunners in all seven innings against Jones, could not get a runner into scoring position until the 7th Inning. Reading (28-33) broke up the shutout with an RBI single from RF Matt Padgett. Jones scattered five hits for the win with one walk and three strikeouts.

The Thunder added insurance in the 7th Inning on Cody Ehlers solo home run, his 1st of the season.

Trenton and Reading wrap up their weekend series on Sunday at 1:05 PM. Ian Kennedy (1-0, 7.20) makes his second start for Trenton since a promotion from Class A Tampa. Matt Maloney (4-4, 4.30) goes to the hill for Reading.
