LANSING- Donovan Solano snapped out of an 0-for-22 slump with a five RBI night, leading the Swing of the Quad Cities to an 11-5 win over the Lansing Lugnuts before 7,296 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night. Solano finished the game 4-for-5 with the five RBI.
With the game tied 3-3 in the sixth, the Swing's Christian Reyes deposited a solo homer over the left field wall to put the visitors up 4-3.
The Quad Cities then expanded the lead in the seventh by sending 12 batters to the plate in a seven run outburst. With the bases loaded and one out, Mark Shorey dropped a single into right field tha plated two runs. Lansing's Travis Snider then committed a throwing error that pushed across Brandon Buckman to put the Swing up 7-3. Chris Grossman followed that up with an RBI double of his own to plate Shorey and make it an 8-3 game. After the next two batters walked, Solano was able clear the bases with a double down the line in right to extend the lead to 11-3.
Lansing had trailed the game 3-0 early but fought back to tie it in the fifth. Trailing 3-1 at the time, Matt Liuzza led the frame off with a solo homer to cut the lead to 3-2. Chris Gutierrez then followed a Yuber Rodriguez double later in the frame with an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.
Brandon Dickson (6-2) got the win for the Swing, tossing five innings while allowing three runs on six hits.
Chase Lirette (4-2) took the loss for the Lugnuts, allowing seven runs on as many hits in 6 1/3 innings. Only four of the runs were earned to him.
Lansing (17-14) finishes the homestand at 2-6 during the eight games. The Lugnuts will now head to South Bend on Saturday night to take on the SilverHawks in the first game of a four game set. It will be a battle of southpaws as Nate Starner (2-4, 6.00) will get the call for the Lugnuts, while Jordan Norberto (0-0, 0.00) will make his first start for the SilverHawks this season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
