Eagles Captain Pankewicz Out with Injury

November 24, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

WINDSOR, CO- Colorado Eagles Vice President and Head Coach Chris Stewart announced today that captain and leading scorer Greg Pankewicz will be out of the lineup for approximately four months. Pankewicz has undergone surgery for an unspecified injury, but will hopefully return to the Eagles prior to the end of the regular season.

"Although Greg Pankewicz has undergone surgery and will be out for an extensive period of time, we feel confident that the players in the dressing room are going to step up and fill that role," said Chris Stewart. "Replacing Greg is not something we will be able to do nor something we will try to do. In saying that, we will not be replacing our captain or adding a veteran, we will remain with the players that got us to this point in the season and expect all of them to step up and play a bigger role with the Colorado Eagles. Our expectations are to see Greg back in the lineup before the regular season ends, and with all things being equal; we will have our captain back during the playoffs."

The 16-year veteran still leads the Central Hockey League in scoring with 29 points (18-11-29) although he has only played in 11 games. Pankewicz scored his 1000th professional point and his 500th professional goal this season and he is the Eagles all-time leading scorer with 296 points (143-153-296) in 181 games played. The 6'0", 205-pound right winger was the Central Hockey League's Most Valuable Player in the 2004-05 season and was on pace for career numbers in goals, assists and points this season.

Tickets for all Eagles games are on sale by calling 877-544-TIXX or going online to www.comcasttix.com. For more information, go to www.coloradoeagles.com.
