Lightning Strikes Twice as Hounds Win Again in a Shootout!

The Youngstown SteelHounds once again go to a shootout against Corpus Christi and once again it is Brad Patterson who scores the game winner for the second straight game as Youngstown squeaks by the Rays 2-1 to improve to 8-3-3 this season.

Jeff Christian tallied his seventh of the season at 12:51 on the power play to give the Hounds a 1-0 lead after one. The second period saw Doug Orr and the Rayz Geno Parrish ejected for fighting at the 11:38 mark. At 18:06 on a four on three advantage Justin Lapine tied it at one in a game that saw 22 power plays (12 by Youngstown).

The story of the game was Corpus Christi goaltender Brent Zelenewich who made 45 saves on 47 shots despite the loss. The 47 shots for the Hounds set a franchise record as did the 20 shot second period.

David Currie made 17 saves on 18 shots in the Youngstown victory and stopped three of five shooters in the extra session.

Patterson's two straight game winners improve the hounds to 3-2 in shootouts and 5-1 on Friday nights. Youngstown's win combined with a Memphis loss now puts the SteelHounds in first place in the Northeast division by one point with a chance to sweep the Rayz in the final game of three game set.

These two teams play tomorrow night at 7:05 to finish off the Hounds six-game home stand. It will be "Red-Out" night as fans are encouraged to wear red to support the Youngstown State football team and bring canned food items to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.
