Colorado Eagles News Release
LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles won their eighth straight home game Friday night at the Budweiser Events Center beating the Rocky Mountain Rage 3-2. Ed McGrane scored a pair of goals including a penalty shot in the second period and Ryan Tobler added a goal and an assist. The Eagles did not score a power play goal for the first time this season, but held on to beat the Rage for the third straight time. Marco Emond made 32 saves on 34 shots to improve his record to 9-0-0 and David Guerrera stopped 36 of 39 shots for the Rage. Colorado and Rocky Mountain will face off again Saturday night at the Broomfield Event Center in their fifth of 12 meetings this season.
Dominic Noel scored his first goal of the season, a power play goal that gave the Rage a 1-0 lead only 2:26 into the first period. It was the Rage first goal in 139:03 as they were shutout in the previous two games. Eagles left winger Ryan Tobler tied the game at one when he won a faceoff back to Aaron Schneekloth then tipped in Schneekloth's shot. It marked Tobler's third goal of the season and first in five games. The score remained tied for the rest of the period, and Colorado out shot the Rage 14-11. Rocky Mountain was 1-3 on the power play and the Eagles finished 0-2 in the period.
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead only 4:27 into the second period when Ed McGrane put in a rebound off of a Ryan Tobler shot for his first goal of the season and first ever goal at the Budweiser Events Center. Halfway through the period, McGrane came in on a breakaway and was tripped from behind giving him a penalty shot. McGrane came in alone, faked his forehand, went to his backhand and beat Rage goaltender David Guerrera giving the Eagles a 3-1 lead. Rocky Mountain fought back and Mark Wires tallied his team leading fifth goal of the season when he snuck the puck underneath the leg pad of Marco Emond.
Less than three minutes into the final period, the Eagles were forced to kill a five-on-three as both Scott Polaski and Les Borsheim went to the penalty box. Colorado killed the penalties and skated to a scoreless third period. Final score: Eagles 3 - Rage 2.
