Three roster moves highlight trading deadline

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis left-hander Oliver Perez was traded to the New York Mets organization hours before Monday afternoon's Major League Baseball trading deadline, while outfielder Chris Duffy and right-hander Josh Sharpless were recalled by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Perez went 1-3 with a 5.63 ERA in six Triple-A starts after being optioned to Indianapolis on June 30. The 24-year-old started the year with the Pirates, going 2-10 with a 6.63 ERA in 15 big league starts.
Duffy was hitting .349 with two home runs and 19 RBI in 26 Triple-A games. The 26-year-old began the season with the Pirates before being optioned to the Indians on May 15.
Sharpless, who participated in the 2006 XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game, went 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 23 Triple-A relief appearances. The 25-year-old started the season with Double-A Altoona (Pa.) before being promoted to the Tribe on May 18.
Duffy and Sharpless are the ninth and 10th Indianapolis players to be promoted to the parent club in 2006.
