Published on April 25, 2006 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Albuquerque Isotopes slugger Jason Stokes and Las Vegas 51s hurler Chad Billingsley have been tabbed as the PCL's top performers for the week ending April 23rd. Leading the way at the plate in the Isotopes' six consecutive victories this week, Stokes tallied a .481 batting average and a .815 slugging percentage while the 51s' Billingsley shut down opposing lineups, posting an impressive 0.87 ERA in his two appearances. Both award-winners also found their respective clubs atop the PCL standings with Albuquerque and Las Vegas currently sharing the League's top spot with a 12-6 record.
First baseman Jason Stokes hit safely in all seven games played during the week, including a four for five performance on April 17th against New Orleans and a three for three showing against Iowa on April 20th. By the week's end, Stokes had collected 13 hits in 27 at bats belting two home runs and racking up three doubles with five RBIs. At twenty-three years of age, the Irving, Texas native is in his sixth professional season and his second with Albuquerque, the Florida Marlins' top affiliate.
Chad Billingsley showed why he is one of the Los Angeles Dodgers' top prospects with two outstanding performances. Hailing from Defiance, Ohio, the twenty one year-old allowed just one run and six hits in 10.1 innings of work while striking out 14 batters. In his April 17th contest against Sacramento, Billingsley gave up just three hits and struck out eight, picking up the win for the 51s.
The Pacific Coast League, established in 1903, will once again look to re-write the attendance records books in 2006 after setting the Minor League regular season attendance record by drawing over 7.3-Million fans in 2005.
