Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Charleston, WV â The Lakewood BlueClaws (21-43) played two games against the West Virginia Power (23-41), Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, Sunday night. The Power came away with victories in both games winning game one 9-8 and game two 5-0.
Game one picked up in the bottom of the 11th inning with the score tied 7-7 and the BlueClaws as the home team. This game was suspended on June 6th at FirstEnergy Park because of rain. The game played another four innings with the Power winning 9-8. West Virginia took an 8-7 lead in the 14th inning but the BlueClaws tied it up at 8-8 in the bottom half of the inning. Doug Gredvig connected for a solo homer with one out to tie the game, his third homer of the year.
The Power scored again in the top half of the 15th on a one-out RBI base hit from Hashan Rasheed scoring Will Lewis from second. In the bottom of the 15th the BlueClaws had the tying run on third base with two outs but couldn't push the tying run across.
Nate Johnson (4-3) took the loss in relief allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.
In game two the Power took an early lead plating a run in the third inning for a 1-0 lead. With two outs in the inning Hernan Iribarren singled then stole second to get into scoring position. Will Lewis then connected for an RBI base hit scoring Iribarren.
Derek Griffith (2-5) had another great outing but once again the BlueClaws offense failed to give him any support as he took the loss. Griffith pitched seven innings allowing just one run on five hits while walking one and striking out a season high eleven batters.
Matt Sweeny came into the game in relief in the eighth inning allowing four runs on three hits while walking nobody and striking out nobody.
Lakewood was held to just six hits in the game with Brad Harman going 2-for-3 in the game.
The series continues Monday night with Lakewood sending right-hander Maximo De La Cruz (2-4, 4.42) to the mound while the Power will counter with right-hander Brian Montalbo (1-2, 5.30). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
