June 12, 2005 - Northern League (NL)
Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
(Sioux Falls, SD) â The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks put an end to the Canaries four game win streak Saturday night with a 14-9 victory on Pat O'Brien Bobblehead night at the Birdcage.
With the loss, the Canaries fall to 9-12 and are five games out of first place in the Northern League's north division. The RedHawks remain in first place, two games ahead of Sioux City.
The game remained close through the first five innings as Fargo and Sioux Falls were knotted at four. Then a two-error top of the sixth helped two runs to score, giving the RedHawks a 6-4 lead.
Canary pitching ran into trouble again in the seventh after a leadoff double and two walks loaded the bases. Brian Ward drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, Brad Flanders doubled to drive in another, Joe Mathis singled to drive in a third run and Bryan Jeffcoat singled to score the final run of the inning. After the four-run, four-hit seventh inning the RedHawks led 10-4.
Fargo would add three runs in the eighth inning and another in the ninth, while the Canaries scored two in the eighth on a John Ballon homerun and three in the ninth to finish the scoring at 14-9.
Taft Cable improves to 2-0 with the win while Matt Koziara fell in defeat after his first relief appearance of the season.
The series and 10-game homestand end with tomorrow's 2:05 first pitch. Julio Medina is the probable starter for the Canaries while Brandon Culp will pitch for the RedHawks. Tomorrow is Dog Day Afternoon, presented by Dog Guard and the Sioux Nation Ag Center as dogs are welcome to tomorrow's game. It is also Cancer Survivor Day at the Birdcage, as the Birds join survivors, family members and caretakers in a celebration of life.
