CHARLESTON, SC – For the second time in as many months, RiverDogs closer Mike Martinez finished first in all of Minor League Baseball in the Rolaids Relief Man Standings.

After finishing heading the list for the month of April by going 8-8 in save opportunities and winning his only decision, Martinez had a nearly identical month of May. The right-hander was 8-8 in save opportunities once again during the month and also went 1-0 to finish one point ahead of Ed Almonte of the Erie Seawolves in the Class AA Eastern League. The eighth-round draft choice in 2004 went 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 14 games during May after going 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 10 April appearances.

A member of the 2004 NCAA Champion Cal-State Fullerton Titans, Martinez is first in the South Atlantic League with 16 saves and 24 appearances.

Former Minor League Rolaids Relief winners include current Texas Rangers closer Francisco Cordero, current Cincinnati Reds reliever Joe Valentine and former Boston Red Sox reliever Rich Garces.

The RiverDogs close out a four-game homestand with a contest against the Greensboro Grasshoppers on Thursday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The gates open at 6 pm with the first pitch at 7:05, as the RiverDogs host another Thirsty Thursday presented by Wild Wing Café and 95 SX.
