New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release


New Orleans took advantage of four Nashville errors and defeated the Sounds 6-2 at the Greer Stadium on Saturday night. The Zephyrs scored three unearned runs in the seventh to overcome a 2-1 deficit. Gaby Sanchez led New Orleans with three hits and a pair of RBI. Shortstop Manny Mayorson had four hits including a eighth inning triple leading to a key insurance run. The Z's offense came alive with a season high 12 hits. Willie Collazo earned the win in relief. Starter Burke Badenhop worked five innings and allowed one run. Nate Field pitched two scoreless in relief and Brian Sanches retired the Sounds in order in the ninth to finish the game. Sounds reliever Chris Narveson was tagged for the loss allowing three unearned runs.

Game Notes: The winning pitchers of the Z's first two wins this season are the only returning pitchers from last years team, Collazo and Field. 12 years ago today Zephyr Field is christened with an 8-3 win over Oklahoma City before 10,366 fans. Oklahoma City's Mark Little records the first hit, a leadoff single in the first inning, and scored the first run. Eric Anthony has the first RBI. Kevin Flora matches Little's feat with a leadoff single in the bottom of the first, the Zephyrs' first hit, and steals the first base..... Nobody's Perfect! Every team in the division has won a game and lost a game. Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Sounds meet at 2PM on Easter Sunday in Nashville. New Orleans will start RH Dallas Trahern against RH Nick Green. The game will wrap up the first series of the season, New Orleans will travel to Memphis on Monday to start a four game series. RADIO: AM 690 WIST.
