Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

METAIRIE, La. -- Gil Velazquez singled home two runs to break a tie ballgame in the eighth inning and the New Orleans Zephyrs rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Saturday night at Zephyr Field.

Chili Buss hit a solo home run in the fourth inning, giving him 100 RBIs for the year. That was the only run Zephyrs starter Jared Rogers allowed in six innings. The score remained 1-0 going into the bottom of the eighth.

At that point, Isotopes right-hander Matt Palmer had given up two hits and two walks. Rob Brantly blooped a single to right to start the inning, then pinch hitter Kyle Jensen walked. Kevin Mattison laid down a bunt that Palmer fielded, but his throw to third base was wide and ended up near the Topes bullpen, tying the score at 1-1.

Velazquez followed with a clean single to center, scoring two runs.

Josh Wall, the former Tope, started the ninth inning for New Orleans. Eliezer Alfonzo lined a one-out double down the third-base line, then Buss reached on an error by first baseman Jordan Brown. Brian Barden struck out and Justin Sellers walked, which loaded the bases.

Zephyrs manager Ron Hassey brought in lefty James Leverton to face lefty John Baker, and Baker struck out looking to end the game.

Game three of the four-game series -- and the second-to-last game of the 2013 season -- will be Sunday night. Jonathan Sanchez starts for Albuquerque. Brian Flynn gets the ball for New Orleans. First pitch is at 5 pm MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
