River Cats Fall 7-1 in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. - Jemile Weeks went 2-for-3, but the River Cats fell 7-1 to the Tacoma Rainiers on Friday night at Cheney Stadium.

The Rainiers were quick to score as they scored two in the first inning off two line drives to the outfield. Another line drive to the outfield in the fourth inning put Tacoma up 3-0. Four more runs in the eighth inning from a single, a double, a groundout, and a Sacramento error sealed the Rainiers win, 7-1.

The River Cats only run came in the top of the ninth, when Anthony Aliotti scored on a wild pitch by Tacoma closer Logan Bawcom.

Jemile Weeks led Sacramento as he finished 2-for-3 with a walk, while Michael Choice went 1-for-3. Aliotti went 1-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to nine games and David Freitas also recorded a hit.

Sacramento left-hander Carlos Hernandez struck out two, but gave up three earned runs off seven hits in five innings of work and earned his third loss of the season. Reliever Fernando Nieve tallied two strikeouts and one walk in two innings of relief, while Mike Zagurski gave up two earned runs off four hits in 0.2 IP.

Tacoma's Forrest Snow struck out eight in five scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season.

The River Cats will send righty Bruce Billings (13-7, 4.40 ERA) to the mound tomorrow in Tacoma in game two of their final series of the regular season. He faces fellow righty Blake Beavan (5-6 6.00 ERA) of Tacoma as the River Cats make one final chase for the playoffs.
