Tucson Padres News Release
The Tucson Padres rallied for three runs in the ninth, including Mike Wilson's two-run homer, to defeat the Las Vegas 51s 3-1 Friday at Cashman Field. The win was the Padres fifth of the season when trailing after eight innings and their third straight on the road.
Las Vegas starter Rafael Montero struck out six batters in the first two innings on way to an eight-strikeout performance. Kirk Nieuwenhuis broke the scoreless tie in the fifth with a two-out RBI single to right field, bringing home Juan Centeno from second.
Jaff Decker led off the ninth with a single to the right-center field gap and moved to second base on Daniel Robertson's sacrifice bunt. Dean Anna then singled to right, driving home Decker to tie the score at one. Wilson followed Anna with his seventh home run of the season to put Tucson ahead 3-1. Brad Boxberger struck out the side in the ninth to seal the win for the Padres. The save was Boxberger's fifth of the year.
O'Sullivan won his eighth game for Tucson, after pitching eight innings and yielding one run on six hits. Justin Hampson was charged with the loss after surrendering the lead for Las Vegas in the ninth. Anna increased his Pacific Coast League leading average to .334 by going 2-for-4 at the plate Friday.
