New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

The New Orleans Zephyrs got back to their strength on Tuesday, solid starting pitching, to end one of the longest losing streaks in club history.

Ruddy Lugo pitched seven strong innings, and the Zephyrs downed the Oklahoma RedHawks 3-1 to end a nine-game losing streak, the team's longest since May 1995.

Lugo (6-7) struck out eight RedHawks while scattering six hits to pick up his first win in four starts against Oklahoma this season. Lugo had entered the game 0-3 with a 9.60 ERA in three previous starts.

Travis Metcalf hit his second homer in as many days in the top of the second to give the RedHawks the lead, but the Zephyrs answered in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Michel Abreu. They took their first lead in 10 games in the fourth, after Robinson Cancel led off with a double and eventually scored on a double play grounder by Anderson Hernandez.

The Z's tacked on an insurance run in the seventh when Jesus Feliciano drove home Hernandez, who had led off with a single.

Cancel had three of the Zephyrs' 10 hits, including two doubles.

The Zephyrs improved to 7-8 in games played on Canada Day.
