MacLane's Gem Gives Tucson 8-1 Win

Tucson, AZ - Thirteen hits and an Evan MacLane gem on the mound gave the Tucson Sidewinders a 8-1 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies Tuesday.

Evan MacLane got his fourth win of the season by allowing only one run in eight and a third innings of work. He started the ninth inning but was relieved by Jailen Peguero after allowing two baserunners. Peguero retired both batters he faced to seal the victory.

Tucson put up the first run of the game in the first inning with an RBI double by Josh Whitesell scoring Tim Raines, Jr. from second. The Grizzlies tied the game in the third inning with a solo shot from Eugenio Velez, which was his fourth of the season.

The Sidewinders were able to get the lead back in the fourth inning with two runs produced by a Josh Whitesell hard hit single that got past the short stop.

Tucson did extended their lead by five with a three run, sixth inning. The inning began with an Evan MacLane double and was later brought in from an Alex Romero double. Next batter, Tim Raines, Jr. stepped up and hit a two-run homerun off the first pitch.

The Sidewinders added one more in the seventh inning and another in the eighth. The run in the seventh came off a Romero single to center field scoring MacLane from second. While in the eighth inning, the Sidewinders got their last run of the game from a wild pitch that let Whitesell score from third.

The Sidewinders will face the Grizzlies in the second game of a four game series at 7:00 PM. RHP Matt Torra (1-1, 5.38) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Victor Santos (4-3, 4.05) will start for the Grizzlies. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55 p.m.
