
Padres recall Hensley

PORTLAND, Ore. - The San Diego Padres today recalled Portland right-handed pitcher Clay Hensley and optioned infielder Craig Stansberry to Portland.
Hensley, 28, began the season on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain and was reinstated and optioned to Portland on June 6 after making 10 major league rehab appearances with the Beavers. In 14 appearances (8 starts) overall with Portland this season, including his rehabilitation assignment, he is 1-1 with a 3.25 ERA (13er, 36.0ip), 27 strikeouts and 12 walks. Hensley also made one rehab appearance with Class A Lake Elsinore on April 22, throwing one scoreless inning.
Over parts of three major league seasons with the Padres (2005-07), Hensley is 14-16 with a 3.92 ERA in 74 appearances (39 starts). In parts of three seasons with Portland (2005; 2007-08), he is 5-10 with a 4.38 ERA over 42 appearances (35 starts).
Stansberry is hitting .375 (6-for-16) with one double, two RBIs and four runs scored in 12 games with the Padres this season. Recalled from Portland on June 6, Stansberry hit .232 (43-for-185) with 10 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 19 RBIs and 28 runs scored in 51 games for the Beavers to start the year. In parts of two seasons with the Beavers (2007-08), Stansberry is batting .261 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs in 175 games.
