Z's Let Late Lead Slip Away in 5-3 Defeat

The New Orleans Zephyrs dropped their third game in a row on Monday night, losing 5-3 in 10 innings to the Nashville Sounds.

Z's starter Hunter Jones pitched 7.1 strong innings, allowing one earned run on five hits while walking one and striking out four. Reliever Kasey Olenberger replaced Jones in the bottom of the seventh and allowed the game tying run, blowing his second save of 2010. Fellow reliever Jose Veras dropped to 0-1 on the year following one inning of work, allowing two earned runs on two hits.

For Nashville, four relievers combined to shutout the Z's in 4.2 innings of work, surrendering just three hits while striking out seven. John Axford picked up the win to improve to 2-2 on the year, while Chris Smith notched his eighth save of the season.

New Orleans third baseman Hector Luna went 3x5 at the plate with his fourth home run of the 2010 campaign, while first baseman Lee Mitchell also collected three hits in five at-bats.

The teams complete the four game tilt Tuesday morning from Zephyr Field at 11:30 am. Nashville sends lefty Chase Wright (1-0, 3.63) up against the Z's Jorge Sosa (1-0, 1.80).
