TONIGHT: The RedHawks and Memphis continue their series with Game 3 out of 4 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. OKC has won the first 2, and 5 out of 6 on the season against the Redbirds. Yesterday, the RedHawks blanked Memphis 8-0. OKC shares the PCL's best record with Nashville at 12-6. The RedHawks enter today's play with their largest division lead of the season at 2.5 games over Albuquerque and their highest point above .500 at 6 games. Righthander Guillermo Moscoso is the slated starter for the RedHawks. He did not get a decision in his other start against Memphis April 16, tossing 3 scoreless innings. Adam Ottavino goes for the Redbirds.
OKC PITCHES A COMBINED 2-HITTER: Michael Kirkman and Clay Rapada combined to 2-hit Memphis yesterday in an 8-0 final. Kirkman went 8 innings, the longest OKC starting effort of the season, allowing 1 hit, while Rapada pitched a scoreless ninth allowing the other hit. Both Memphis singles were by Amaury Cazana. OKC shares the league lead in shutouts (3) with Colorado Springs. Two of the RedHawks' shutouts have been at the expense of Memphis. Yesterday's run total matched OKC's largest of the season and the margin of victory was the RedHawks' biggest of year.
ADDING UP: Michael Kirkman's 8-inning performance yesterday was the longest of his career, which dates to 2005. His previous high for innings in a game was 7.0 on several occasions. Kirkman's quality start yesterday was his first of the year and the team's 11th in 18 games. OKC has turned in a quality start in each of the last 4 games. Derek Holland and Brandon McCarthy have quality starts in all 8 combined outings (4 each), while Michael Ballard has 2.
TRACY HITTING STREAK AT 7: Chad Tracy brings a 7-game hitting streak into tonight's play. It's the longest OKC hitting streak of the season. During the streak, which began in Memphis April 18, Tracy is 9-for-24 (.365). He also sports an 11-game on-base streak. Tracy has hits in 15 of 17 games played and has failed to reach base by hit or walk only once this season, April 13.
LEADERS: Chad Tracy leads the PCL in total bases (48), is second in homers (6) and tied for second in RBIs (18). He's also fourth in slugging (.716) and tied for fourth in hits (23). Tracy is tied with Albuquerque's John Lindsey for the extra-base hit lead with 12. Esteban German is tied for third in runs with 16. Derek Holland leads the league with a 0.67 ERA. Brandon McCarthy (28.2) and Holland (27) are 1-2 in the PCL in innings pitched.
TEAM RANKINGS: OKC is second in team ERA at 3.07 behind Nashville's 3.02. The RedHawks, have the league's lowest WHIP (walks + hits per innings pitched) at 1.12. Offensively, the RedHawks are fourth in the PCL in team batting average (.274), while remaining second in on-base percentage (.356) and slugging (.441). OKC is second in homers with 19 and third in triples with 8.
SALTALAMACCHIA'S REHAB UPDATE: Texas Rangers catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia did not play yesterday after catching all 9 innings the previous two games while on a rehab assignment. He went on the Rangers' 15-day DL April 8 with a left upper back strain after starting Texas' season opener, driving in the winning run with a single in the bottom of the ninth, and pinch hitting during the next game. BULLPEN STREAKERS: Clay Rapada has put together an 8.2-inning scoreless streak over his last 6 games...Rapada has a 0.96 ERA...Pedro Strop has not allowed an earned run in his last 7 games, spanning 5.2 innings, but has allowed 6 of his last 7 inherited runners to score in his past 3 outings. Omar Beltre has 2 saves in his last 3 games, tossing 4 scoreless innings. Willie Eyre has not allowed a hit or a run in his last 3 games covering 4 innings.
