New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The New Orleans Zephyrs suffered their first loss of the season on Sunday, as the Nashville Sounds dealt them a 4-0 defeat at Zephyr Field.
Nashville starter Nic Ungs (1-0) combined with three relievers to hold the Z's to three hits, two of which came from first baseman Michel Abreu. After Abreu's one-out single in the fourth inning, the Sounds retired the final 17 New Orleans batters.
The Z's did not have a baserunner advance past first base on the afternoon.
Chris Aguila had the other Zephyrs base hit, a single with one out in the second inning. But Aguila was picked off first by Ungs, who went five innings to pick up his first win of the year.
Joselo Diaz (0-1) was the losing pitcher, despite allowing just two runs on three hits. Diaz struck out five and walked one.
Robert Paulk gave up four hits and two runs - one earned - in two innings of relief work. Jose Santiago pitched a perfect ninth.
The Zephyrs open up a four-game series with the Memphis Redbirds at Zephyr Field on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
