Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson AZ - For the first time this season the Sidewinders were the first to score, but couldn't hold on to the lead going into the sixth inning. Tucson's bull pen gave up four runs in the seventh inning and the Sidewinders couldn't get back the lead from the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to fall 10-7 in the game and 1-3 on the season.
The first tally for the Sidewinders came off a Javier Brito solo home run to left field in the first, his second long ball of the year.
The Sky Sox came back and tied it in the second with a solo shot to right by Joe Koshansky, and took the lead in the third inning on a Sean Barker triple to right scoring Omar Quintanilla from first.
Sidewinders regained the lead in the fourth inning on a Dave Krynzel bases loaded single to right scoring one, followed by a Matt Green single to left bringing in another to make the score 3-2 Tucson.
The Sky Sox tied it again in the sixth on a Jon Herrera two-out single to right scoring Sean Barker. Emiliano Fruto replaced starting pitcher Green and struck out pinch hitter Christian Colonel to retire the side.
Tucson retook the lead in the sixth with a Matt Morgan RBI single and a two-run triple to the right field by Emilio Bonifacio. Bonifacio attempted an inside the park home run but was gunned out at home on a close play.
The tide turned for the Sidewinders in the seventh however, when Rightfielder Davis Krynzel lost an Edwin Bellorin ball in the sun with the bases loaded allowing three runs to score.
Corey Sullivan added to the Sky Sox lead in the eighth with a solo home run to right to make the score 8-6. Colorado Springs would two more in the ninth to win their third straight against the Sidewinders.
The Sidewinders will face the Salt Lake Bees in the first game of a four game series starting at 6:30 PM on Monday night. RHP Max Scherzer (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for Tucson. Right-hander Giancarlo Avalarado (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Bees. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:15 p.m.
