Zephyrs Shut Out Memphis, 7-0

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - Duane Below dealt seven innings of shut-out baseball and the Zephyrs defeated the Memphis Redbirds 7-0 Thursday afternoon. The Z's offense had no problem with the 11 AM start scoring four first inning runs and a pair of second inning runs to jump out to the 6-0 lead.

Below worked seven innings and limited the Redbird hitters to three hits in the win. He walked two batters, struckout three and induced a pair of double-plays. The seven innings is his longest outing of the season and improved to 3-2 on the year.

The shut-out dealt by the Zephyrs is the fifth of the season. James Leverton and Chris Hatcher each pitched a scoreless inning.

New Orleans sent nine batters to the plate in the first inning scoring four runs on two hits. Memphis starter Mitchell Boggs worked two innings allowed six runs on five hits, walked two in the loss. Boggs recently was sent from St Louis to Triple-A and now has dropped to 0-2 in three starts.

Gorkys Hernandez led the Zephyr attack with three hits. Jordan Brown and Matt Downs each had a hit and two runs batted in.

The Zephyrs won the first and last games in the series to Memphis but dropped the series three games to two.

Game Notes - Five shutouts is the third most in the PCL. The Zephyrs improved to 25-9 when scoring the first run.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs will travel to Nashville to open a four game set. The Z's will start RH Matt Neil (1-2, 7.66) against Sounds LH Chris Narveson (0-1, 9.72). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM "The Ticket"
