New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

For the second straight game, the Omaha Royals used a five-run inning to propel themselves past the New Orleans Zephyrs, scoring five times in the fourth inning Thursday to beat the Z's, 6-1. The Royals outscored New Orleans 26-3 in winning the final three games of the series.

Zephyrs starter Nelson Figueroa sturggled with his command, yielding three walks in 3.2 innings, and finished by allowing five runs on seven hits to take his first loss of the season.

David Matranga provided another big blow against his former team, delivering a bases-loaded single to give Omaha the lead. Matranga, who played in 207 games for the Zephyrs in 2001-2003, finished the series 8-for-18, with two homers and seven RBI.

Billy Butler and Ryan Shealy later followed with back-to-back run-scoring doubles, as Omaha took control of the game.

The lone Zephyrs run came on a seventh-inning solo homer by Valentino Pascucci. It ended a 48 at-bat homerless drought for Pascucci, who had hit 11 in his first 99 at-bats with the club.

Robinson Cancel added two hits and a stolen base for New Orleans.

The Z's travel to Oklahoma to begin a five-game series with the division-leading RedHawks on Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Tony Armas will take on RHP Elizardo Ramirez.
