Portland Beavers News Release

LAS VEGAS - John Lindsey collected four hits, Jason Repko homered, doubled and drove in three runs, and Jason Johnson earned his league-leading ninth victory as the Las Vegas 51s beat the Portland Beavers 8-4 Thursday night at Cashman Field.

Chase Headley homered for a second straight game, Brian Myrow was 2-for-2 with two walks and Chip Ambres doubled home two runs for the Beavers, who fell to the 51s for the 10th time in their last 12 meetings at Cashman Field.

The loss dropped the Beavers (32-33) to 3-5 on their season-long, 12-game road trip, and gave the 51s (36-31) a 9-7 win in the season series between the two clubs.

Johnson (9-3), whose only loss since early April came against the Beavers on June 1, won for the ninth time in his last 10 decisions by holding Portland to two runs, five hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings.

Conversely, Wade LeBlanc (6-5), who came into the game with a 4-0 record and a 2.05 ERA over his previous four outings, gave up seven runs and nine hits while striking out five over five innings to take the loss, his first since May 17. LeBlanc was 1-3 with a 12.06 ERA (21er, 15.2ip) in four starts against Las Vegas this season.

Lindsey hit an RBI double as part of a two-run first and added an RBI single in the third to help the 51s build a 4-1 lead. In 16 games against Portland this season, Lindsey, who had two doubles, batted .397 (25-for-63) with seven home runs, five doubles and 22 RBIs.

Brian Myrow, who was 9-for-11 with eight walks and six RBIs in the series, had an RBI single in the third and Headley belted a solo homer - his 12th of the season - in the fifth to keep the Beavers close. But Repko homered off LeBlanc in the bottom of the fifth and doubled home two runs as part of a three-run rally in the sixth that gave Las Vegas an 8-2 lead.

NOTES: Earlier in the day, the Padres optioned left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher to Portland when they reinstated right-hander Jake Peavy from the disabled list for Thursday's start against the Los Angeles Dodgers ... the Beavers have lost seven of their last 10 games ... Will Venable hit his second triple of the season and extended his hitting streak to eight games while Myrow pushed his current streak to six games.
