Memphis Redbirds News Release

MEMPHIS, TN - The New Orleans offense exploded for seven runs in the first inning en route to their 9-3 win over Memphis Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.

The Zephyrs pounded out six hits in the opening frame off emergency starter Katsuhiko Maekawa. The Redbirds scheduled starter Mitchell Boggs was recalled by St. Louis earlier in the day. New Orleans starting pitcher Brett Sinkbeil helped his own cause with a three-run double before Alejandro De Aza's RBI-single capped the seven-run rally. The Z's sent 11 men to the plate before the inning was over. Jai Miller led the way for the Zephyrs finishing the night a triple shy of the cycle and driving in three runs. Nick Stavinoha provided the bulk of the Memphis offense with his first home run of the year, a two-run shot in the sixth.

Sinkbeil earned the win turning in six solid innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks. Mike Wood picked up the save working three scoreless innings. Maekawa was pinned with the loss giving up eight runs on 11 hits over five innings with a Redbirds season-best eight strikeouts.

Memphis concludes their opening homestand tomorrow with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Adam Ottavino gets the nod for the second time this season and will face New Orleans right-hander Burke Badenhop.
