Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox lost a tough one to the Reno Aces 5-2 Wednesday afternoon in front 4,027 fans at Security Service Field.

In his first start of the season for the Sky Sox, Franklin Morales threw a solid game tossing six shutout innings on just two hits with four strikeouts. The only downside to his day was issuing five walks but he was able to work around them. Unfortunately, the Sox relief pitching couldn't match Morales' efforts.

The Sox struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Aces starting pitcher Tony Barnette. Matt Murton drove in Eric Young Jr. by way of an RBI single, followed by another RBI single compliments of Christian Colonel who drove in Carlos Gonzalez for the Sky Sox second and final run of the game. Barnette finished the game surrendering two runs on seven hits with three walks.

The Sky Sox relief pitching broke down in the eighth when Randy Flores (0-1) and Steven Register combined to give up five runs on five hits. Alex Romero and Josh Wilson had back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game at 2-2. Third Baseman Rusty Ryal then broke the game open with his two-run double to give the Aces a 4-2 advantage. Trent Oeltjen added one more RBI single for good measure to close out the Aces eighth inning explosion.

Jon Coutlangus earned his first save of the season for the Aces throwing two scoreless innings to close out the Sox.

The Sox will be looking to even the series tomorrow night in the series finale which will feature RH Josh Fogg (0-0) versus RH Seth Etherton (1-0) at 11:05 AM.
