Ruben Gotay drove in five runs and Jorge Sosa pitched seven innings as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Isotopes 9-4 on Monday night. The Isotopes scored first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Jorge Sosa silenced the Isotopes pitching seven innings and scattered seven hits for his third win of the season. Gotay drove in a pair of runs with a double in the third inning to give the Z's a 2-1 lead. Chip Ambres drilled a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning and begin the rout. The Z's added three more runs as Gotay drove in a pair of runs with his second double of the game. Fernando Tatis hit added a two run home run in fifth inning. The Isotopes added two runs in the ninth inning off of reliever Steve Schmoll. Albuquerque starter Paul Mildren pitched three plus innings and allowed six runs and the loss. The win for the Zephyrs snaps a two game losing streak.
Game Notes: Zephyr pitcher Philip Humber was named PCL Pitcher of the week. Humber made two starts and was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA. He struck out seven batters, and allowed just two runs in 13 innings of work during his second week at the Triple-A level. Lastings Milledge seven game hit streak was snapped, he batted one time and grounded out. He left the game in the bottom of the second inning with a bruised right foot. Outfielder Carlos Gomez reached base for the 19th consecutive game. A crowd of 7,983 at Isotopes Park consumed an estimated 26,276 hot dogs on .50 cent hot dog night.
