'Topes fall 9-4 to New Orleans
April 23, 2007 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Scott Seabol hit his second two-run home run in as many games on Monday night, but the ninth-inning blast wasn't enough for the Isotopes, as Albuquerque (8-10) dropped a 9-4 decision to the New Orleans Zephyrs (11-8) in the third of a four-game series at Isotopes Park.
The 'Topes trailed 9-2 entering the ninth inning, but Seabol's two-run homer was the lone spark in an Albuquerque comeback effort that fell short.
Isotopes starter Paul Mildren (1-2) was roughed up for six runs on seven hits over 3.1 innings of work, taking the loss. Chris Young surrendered two runs on three hits in 2.1 innings, while the trio of Matt Yourkin, Ross Wolf and Ben Julianel combined to allow just a run on three hits over the final 3.1 frames.
For New Orleans, Jorge Sosa (3-0) earned the victory, scattering two runs on seven hits over seven innings. Sosa recorded eight strike outs and did not issue a free pass. Steve Schmoll entered in the eighth and completed the final two innings, despite allowing Seabol's blast in the ninth.
Albuquerque did lead early, but that advantage dissipated quickly. Robert Andino led off the first inning with a double and would come around to score two batters later on a Chad Hermansen double-play groundout.
The Zephyrs would take their first lead with two runs in the third, then four more in the fourth to jump out to a 6-1 edge.
In the home half of the fourth, Valentino Pascucci crushed a solo home run to right to bring the 'Topes to within four. That deficit swelled to seven, though, when New Orleans tacked on two more in the fifth and one more in the eighth.
Albuquerque managed three hits-including Seabol's homer-in the ninth, but the 'Topes could not make up the difference.
Reggie Abercrombie, Seabol and Paul Hoover each notched two hits on the evening for Albuquerque.
As part of the Isotopes' popular 50-cent Hot Dog Night, a crowd of 7,923 devoured a grand total of 26,276 dogs.
The series comes to a close with a matinee tomorrow at Isotopes Park. Ricardo Rodriguez (0-2, 7.71) takes the ball for the Isotopes, while the Zephyrs counter with Chan Ho Park (2-1, 6.19). First pitch is set for 12:05 PM.
On Tuesday, the first 3,000 kids through the gates receive an Orbit Growth Chart, courtesy of New Mexico State Parks. In addition, haircuts and shoeshines will be available on the concourse as part of the Business Person's Special.
Tickets can be purchased at Isotopes Park or any Ticketmaster outlet, www.ticketmaster.com, or Ticketmaster by phone 505-883-7800. For more information, visit www.albuquerquebaseball.com or call 505-924-2255.
