Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - If losing streaks signal anything other than struggle, the Express might look to the past for an answer.

Round Rock, which dropped its fifth straight and sank to 9-10 with a 3-2 loss to Oklahoma on Monday, also went on a five-game slide between May 27-May 31 of last season. That's when the team turned a corner, won 13 of its next 19 games and grabbed possession of first place in the Pacific Coast League's American Southern Division for the final 78 games of the regular season.

The top of the Express' line-up went 3-for-22 and the RedHawks' A.J. Murray and Wes Littleton kept Round Rock off the bases for the final eight outs of the game.

Right-hander Juan Gutierrez allowed two runs on five hits, four walks and five strikeouts in his second straight quality outing for Round Rock. Jesse Garcia and Danny Ardoin combined to go 5-for-8 and accounted for both Express runs batting in the eighth and ninth spots.

The RedHawks put up a run in the first behind Freddy Guzman's lead-off single and Victor Diaz's double down the left field line, but Gutierrez settled in, allowing just one more run on three hits before exiting after a perfect sixth.

By then, Round Rock had evened the score against starting right-hander Mike Wood. Cody Ransom led off the fifth with a bunt single to third and moved to second on Ardoin's one-out single to right.

Jesse Garcia drove a double to left, scoring Ransom and pushing Ardoin to third. Josh Anderson then tied the score at 2-2 with a ground out to Oklahoma second baseman Tug Hulett.

The RedHawks all but insured the win with a run against Jose Rodriguez in the seventh. The Express entered Monday's game 0-8 when trailing after the seventh.

Rodriguez, who worked through his first six relief appearances without allowing a run, allowed his third in two games when Miguel Ojeda deposited his second home run of the season just above the left field wall to give Oklahoma the 3-2 lead.

Round Rock will try to avoid its first sweep of the season when it takes on Oklahoma in Game 4 of the series Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at The Dell Diamond. The game can be heard live on 1260 AM or 1530 AM, as well as on www.rrexpress.com.
