New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the visiting Portland Beavers on Tuesday by a score of 12-8.
Right fielder Ricky Ledee hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to break the game open and give the Zephyrs a 12-4 lead. Ledee finished 2-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
Left fielder Chip Ambres went 3-4 also with three RBI and two runs.
Zephyrs starting pitcher Jose Santiago (5-7) gets the win after giving up four runs on eight hits in five innings of play.
Beavers starter Steve Watkins (2-4), a former Zephyr, gets the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits in 2.1 innings.
The Zephyrs win the series 3-1 and finish their homestand with a 7-1 record overall. They will go on the road for an eight-game West Coast trip, beginning Wednesday when they take on the Sacramento Rivercats in a game scheduled for 9:05 PM CT.
