Portland Beavers News Release

METAIRIE, La. - Ricky Ledee was 2-for-4 with a grand slam and Chip Ambers was 3-for-4 with three RBIs as the New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Portland Beavers 12-8 in a game delayed over two hours due to rain delays Monday afternoon at Zephyr Field.

The Beavers return home to begin a four-game series with the Nashville Sounds, Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. at PGE Park.

Frank Menechino was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs and Yordany Ramirez and Brian Myrow each collected three hits to lead the Beavers (44-67), who dropped their third game in a row.

After Ramirez led off the game with a single, Menechino gave the Beavers the early lead with a two-run home run, his third clout of the season.

New Orleans would tie the game in the bottom of the first inning after an error with the bases loaded by shortstop Craig Stansberry and a passed ball by Luke Carlin scored two runs for the Zephyrs (60-50).

Ramirez came up in the top of the second with a runner on third and two outs and lined a double into the right field corner to put the Beavers back in the lead. Menechino would add his second RBI of the contest on a single that scored Ramirez from second base.

Ambers drove in Ledee to bring the Zephyrs within one run in the bottom of the third inning. Shawn Wooten then gave New Orleans a 5-4 lead with a two-run single just before the umpires called both teams off the field due to a torrential downpour.

After almost two hours of rain delay, Ambers came up with two runners on base and hit a two out two-run double to give the Zephyrs a three run lead. Jason Alfaro then drove in Ambers with a double of his own to bring the score to 8-4 in New Orleans favor.

Ledee came up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth and launched a grand slam into the pool beyond the right field fence, giving the Zephyrs a 12-4 lead. The blast was Ledee's second homer of the series and 10th on the year.

The Beavers scored four runs late in the ballgame but could not catch up, and dropped the final game of their eight-game road trip.

NOTES: Scheduled New Orleans starter Philip Humber was scratched before the game stemming from a bout with food poisoning last week. Right-hander Jose Santiago started in his place. ... The Beavers upcoming homestand features three popular promotions, including "Mullet Night" during a Miller Lite Thursday, "Score One for Safety and Health" presented by PGE on Saturday, while Sunday the Beavers will wear one-of-a-kind pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit Susan G. Komen For The Cure as part of "Strike Out Breast Cancer Day."
