Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, Ariz. - The Sidewinders defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes with a walk-off 4-3, in a rain delayed game Monday night, at Tucson Electric Park.
The Sidewinders scored in the bottom of the ninth when Jamie D'Antona hit a two-out bases loaded single to score Alberto Callaspo
The Sidewinders scored in the bottom of the first inning when Alberto Callaspo led off the inning with a solo home run to give the Sidewinders a 1-0 lead.
Then as the Isotopes took the field, a rain delay put the game on hold.
Both starting pitchers were pitching solid games before the one hour and 22 minute delay caused both teams' managers to pull their starters.
Greg Smith pitched a strong game for the Sidewinders and received some stellar defensive support from shortstop Brian Barden, Alex Romero and D'Antona.
Smith pitched six innings and only allowed three hits and did not walk a batter.
The Isotopes scored in the top of the seventh in their first at-bats after the delay. RHP Brandon Medders relieved Smith and with two out allowed a walk to Valentino Pascucci and threw a wild pitch to move Pascucci to second. Scott Seabol followed with a single to score Pascucci. Brett Carroll and Josh Labandeira followed with singles to load the bases. Medders threw his second wild pitch of the inning that scored Seabol from third to make the score 2-1, before he retired catcher Josh Phillips on a ground out.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Romero hit a solo home run to tie the game 2-2.
RHP Chad Harville picked up the win after blowing the save chance in the top of the ninth.
Isotopes' starter RHP Wes Obermueller came out after the delay as well and pitched well after the solo home run he surrendered to Callaspo allowing a total of six hits and two walks and only gave up the one run.
Robby Hammock was ejected after he struck out looking to end the seventh.
