The Des Moines Buccaneers scored three times in the second period to defeat the Lincoln Stars, 4-1, on Friday night at the Ice Box.
Lincoln scored its lone goal at the 6:56 mark of the second period six seconds after killing off the remainder of a five-on-three power play. Nikolas Young hopped out of the penalty box and scored on a wrist shot atop the right-wing circle. Juan Copeland forced a turnover back in the Stars' defensive zone, took the puck past all three lines and picked up the primary assist on Young's first career USHL goal.
Des Moines took a 3-0 lead before Lincoln got its first goal. Jack Kernan scored a power-play goal with 15 seconds left on the man advantage for the only tally of the first period. Ben Kevan scored twice in the second period between a goal by Braedon Ford 1:24 into the middle stanza.
The Stars take on the Omaha Lancers tomorrow night in the first rivalry matchup of the season at 6:05 at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena.
