York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution suffered their first shutout loss of the season, 5-0 to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in front of 4,932 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Friday night. The Revs will look to even the series on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m.
Blue Crabs starter Craig Anderson made his season debut with four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Reliever Joe Newby (1-2) earned the win with three scoreless, and thwarted the Revs' best chance to score in the fifth. He allowed singles to Ian Bladergroen and Liu Rodriguez in the inning, and Scott Grimes drilled a rocket to center but it was caught by Jeremy Owens for the final out of the inning.
Chris Mobley also tossed in 1.2 innings of relief for the Crabs, while Brian Dumesnil came on to record the final out.
Travis Garcia put the Blue Crabs in front with a two-run homer to left field in the third, his fifth of the week. Southern Maryland then plated three more two-out runs in the fifth inning, set up by two infield hits. Eric Crozier rapped an RBI double off the wall in left field to plate one, and Owens followed with a broken-bat bloop single to shallow center that pushed the other two across.
Revs starter Corey Thurman (4-3) suffered the loss, charged with all five runs in 4.2 innings.
The York bullpen was outstanding again, allowing no hits in 4.1 scoreless innings.
Jason Richardson celebrated his birthday by striking out a season-high four, in a season-high 2.1 innings. Ryan Basner and Sean Stidfole each finished the game with 1-2-3 frames.
