York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution and Somerset Patriots combined for 20 runs in the first five-and-a-half innings on Tuesday night. Then the two clubs combined for no runs over the next five-and-a-half innings. That scoreless streak came to an end when Michael Hernandez tagged a leadoff homerun to left field in the 12th inning, lifting the Patriots to an 11-10 win in front of 5,192 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium, and keeping the Revs one game behind Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division standings.

The Revs had built a 10-5 lead after five innings, but Somerset tied the game with a five-spot in the sixth inning, and it stayed that way until Hernandez launched the decisive blow.

York grabbed a first inning lead on an RBI single to right by James Shanks, but the Patriots sprinted in front with four runs the next inning. J.R. Hopf ripped a two-run double to right-center, followed by an RBI triple by Wayne Lydon, and a bloop single from Joe Burke, that brought Lydon home.

The Revs responded with a second inning run of their own on a bloop single by Erold Andrus, but Steve Haake was thrown out at home attempting to score on the play.

Ian Bladergroen then roped an RBI double to right-center in the third, but Shanks was cut down at home, also trying to score, and the Revs still trailed 4-3.

Lydon drove in a run in the fourth on a single to center, increasing Somerset's lead to 5-3, but was picked off at second base by pitcher Jarod Plummer to end the inning.

The Revs then seemingly took control, scoring five times in their half of the fourth, all unearned. Liu Rodriguez came across on a two-out error committed by third baseman Matt Hagen, which kept the inning alive. Haake then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, and Shanks nailed a three-run homer down the left field line, lifting the Revs in front at 8-5. Ramon Castro rapped a two-run single to left-center the next inning, increasing the lead to 10-5.

The Patriots tied the game quickly with a big inning of their own, scoring five times in the sixth. Hernandez led off with a single, and scored on a triple down the right field line by Ayala. Back-to-back walks, with a wild pitch on the first walk which allowed Ayala to score, set the table for Lydon, who sent another triple to the gap, this time a two-run shot to left-center, pulling Somerset within one. Lydon then scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Noah Hall. Rodriguez made a diving stop on the play from second, but Lydon beat his throw home to deadlock things at 10-10.

The Revs prevented the Patriots from grabbing a ninth inning lead, when Iggy Suarez lined out to Andrus in left, and Andrus gunned down Hagen attempting to score at home plate, ending the inning.

Hernandez finished Somerset's comeback, however, with his 12th inning homerun.

Shanks enjoyed his third consecutive three-hit game, a career-first, going 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBI. Rodriguez went 4-for-6 with three runs scored for the Revs. Haake also scored three times, and went 2-for-4.

Suarez had three hits and scored three times for Somerset, while Lydon was 3-for-7 with two triples and four RBI.

The series shifts to Somerset on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m., with Corey Thurman facing Jon Ellis. Fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (WPDC) with Darrell Henry on the call beginning at 6:30 p.m. from Bridgewater, NJ.

The Revs return home on Tuesday, August 17 when they host the Camden Riversharks. They are now just 688 fans away from welcoming their 1,000,000th fan to Sovereign Bank Stadium.
