Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - August 10, 2010) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 9-3 Tuesday night at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Lancaster put one run on the board in the first inning to take an early lead off Bluefish starter Matt Pike. Lloyd Turner led off the frame with a single over the second baseman, and Michael Woods followed with a walk. The bases became loaded on a base hit from Jason Perry. Following a strikeout by Aaron Herr, Reggie Taylor hit a grounder to the right side to bring home Turner. Pike would get out of the jam, striking out Ryan Mulhern for the final out of the frame.

The Bluefish would answer back quickly by tying the game in the bottom half of the first. Adam Greenberg legged out a double to start things off, moved to third on a flyout to center, and tagged up to score on a sacrifice fly hit by Tike Redman.

Two runs came in for Bridgeport in the fourth to make it a 3-1 ballgame, and the Bluefish would remain in command of the lead for the rest of the game. The inning began on a Danny Putnam double, and Tike Redman kept the excitement alive with a single to the outfield to bring home Putnam. Redman moved to third on a base hit by Colin Roberson, and continued on to score on an error committed by Lancaster's second baseman.

The combination of Putnam and Roberson powered Bridgeport past Lancaster. Putnam had a double and a triple on the night, with one run and two RBI. Roberson added three hits, including a double and two RBI.

Jose Sanchez (4-9) took the loss for Lancaster, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on eight hits over the course of six innings of work. The Barnstormer walked one and struck out two.

The win was awarded to Matt Pike (10-4), throwing seven innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.
