Somerset Patriots News Release
York, PA - The Somerset Patriots scored six runs in the 3rd inning but did not have a hit the rest of the night as the York Revolution chipped away and rallied back for a 9-8 win on Tuesday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium, evening a four-game series at one apiece.
The Revs scored twice against Jeff Kennard (0-1) - pitching on back-to-back nights - in the 8th inning to complete a six-run comeback after Somerset had taken an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the 3rd.
The starters, neither Kevin Reese nor Shaun Garceau - both making their first career starts against the opposition - finished the 3rd inning. The Patriots jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Garceau with an RBI from Jeff Nettles and a 2nd-inning homer from Michael Hernandez. The Revolution took the lead back in the 2nd with a three-run homer from Eric Eymann. After Garceau loaded the bases to start the 3rd, he left the game and Jack Spradlin entered. The lefty struggled allowing a run on a Nettles groundout, a two-run double from Matt Hagen, and then a Yusuf Carter three-run homer - his first homer as a Patriot. However, that would be the final hit the Patriots would muster. Garceau went just 2.0 frames, yielding five runs on five hits, three walks and a hit batsman.
Reese left the game in the 3rd after allowing a solo homer from Chris Walker to make it an 8-4 game. In the inning, York manager Andy Etchebarren was ejected while arguing a caught stealing play. Reese went just 2.2 innings, allowing six hits and four runs. The Revs inched back into the game with three in the 5th before the 8th inning rally to take the lead.
York's Jason Richardson retired all 11 men he faced as he and Ronnie Morales finished the 8th and Michael Nix pitched a scoreless 9th. York's bullpen retired the final 17 Patriots in the game. All eight runs and seven hits for the Patriots came in the first three innings.
Somerset (11-21) and York (16-15) look for a series lead on Wednesday night. Nic Ungs (2-3, 3.79) squares off with John VanBenschoten (0-1, 5.63) with coverage beginning at 6:30 pm on 1450 WCTC-AM and www.wctcam.com.
NOTES: Nettles extended his hit streak to 14 games...Hernandez's homer is the 7th of his career in 18 games at Sovereign Bank Stadium...Hagen snapped out of a 2-for-23 slump with his RBI double...Reese has allowed two homers in each of his last two starts...the Patriots are now 0-17 when trailing after 8 innings.
