APPLETON, WI - Michael Ynoa earned his first victory of the 2013 season with five innings of one-run pitching as the Beloit Snappers held off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 3-2, in Midwest League action on Friday night at Fox Cities Stadium.

Beloit, now with a record of 35-25, completes a three-game sweep and remains a half-game ahead of the Quad Cities River Bandits in the Western Division wild card race. Wisconsin has lost four in a row, slipping to 24-32.

Ynoa's (1-1) five inning stint was his longest of 2013 and he made it count. He didn't walk a batter while giving up six hits and striking out three. The Timber Rattlers did manage a run when Tyrone Taylor's third inning two-bagger scored Orlando Arcia. Ynoa responded by retiring seven of the next eight men he faced before exiting.

By the time Wisconsin got their first run, Nick Rickles had put the Snappers in front with a two-run homer, his third of the season, off Michael Strong (0-2). In the sixth, John Wooten added what proved to be a critical insurance run with an RBI single that brought in Bruce Maxwell.

Andres Avila was brought in from the bullpen in the sixth and held the line with scoreless ball in his first three frames. The Timber Rattlers closed to within 3-2 in the ninth on an Alfredo Rodriguez run-scoring single, but Avila struck out Brent Dean for the final out, clinching the game and his first save of the season. Next stop for the Snappers is Community Field in Burlington, Iowa for a four-game series with the Bees that begins with a 6:30pm contest on Saturday. Beloit's game one starter is RHP Seth Streich (5-3, 6.16 ERA), who will have to contend with Burlington's RHP Pat Lowery (2-2, 3.21 ERA).
