Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (25-32) remained winless against the Fort Wayne TinCaps (36-23) this season, as the TinCaps completed a three-game sweep by winning 10-6 at Cooley Law School Stadium on Friday night.

Lansing is now 0-9 this season against Fort Wayne.

The TinCaps jumped out to an early 4-0 start against Lansing starter Taylor Cole in the first inning, capped by back-to-back RBI singles from Chris Burke and Corey Adamson as Fort Wayne sent all nine hitters to the plate.

Three more runs came across against Cole in the fifth, as Luis Tejada delivered a run-scoring single before Burke followed with a two-run single to push the TinCaps up 6-0.

Cole (Loss, 3-4) lasted five innings in the start, taking the loss. He allowed seven runs on nine hits, but Lansing committed a pair of errors, making only four of the runs earned.

Lansing finally got to Fort Wayne starter Walker Weickel (Win, 1-3) in the bottom of the fifth inning as Aaron Munoz, Jorge Flores and Dalton Pompey each drove in a run to get Lansing to within 6-3.

Back in the leadoff spot for the first time in a week, Pompey finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Weickel tossed five innings, allowing three runs - all earned - on three hits to earn his first Midwest League win this season. He walked two and struck out one.

The Lugnuts mounted a late comeback attempt against the TinCaps bullpen, plating three in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Pompey and a pair of runs on a wild pitch and then a passed ball, but it was not enough, as the TinCaps offense slugged over 10 hits for the eighth time against Lansing in nine contests.

The Lugs now head west to play five games in three days against the West Michigan Whitecaps. The in-state rivals will start a doubleheader at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday. In game one, Lansing will send Ben White (2-3, 3.40) to the mound against Endrys Briceno (2-3, 4.58). Kramer Champlin (2-1, 4.01) will start game two for the Lugnuts against Logan Ehlers (0-2, 6.61).
