Scott Silences Bees in 3-2 Loss
June 7, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
Taylor Scott outdueled Alex Keudell in a battle of all-star pitchers, as the Kane County Cougars edged the Burlington Bees 3-2 on Friday evening at Community Field.
Both Scott (3-2) and Keudell (4-2) looked to impress in their first starts since being named all-stars and both starters were very solid, giving their respective team an impressive seven innings on the mound.
The Bees (23-32) got the scoring started in the third when Sherman Johnson walked, advanced to second on a throwing error by Scott and scored on a single by Kyle Johnson.
Keudell had not allowed a hit in his first three innings, but Jeimer Candelario quickly changed that, sending a ball over the left field fence to tie the game at 1-1.
Bijan Rademacher doubled to start the fifth, moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt and then scored on a single by Carlos Escobar. That 2-1 lead did not last long for Kane County, because Kyle Johnson singled home Wendell Soto in the bottom of the inning. Scott went seven frames, allowing eight hits and three walks, while not striking out a single batter.
It looked like Keudell was going to get through seven innings, allowing only two runs, but with two outs, Marco Hernandez singled and then scored on a triple by Carlos Escobar. Keudell surrendered five hits and one walk in his seven innings.
The Bees threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs against Stephen Perakslis, but Wade Hinkle fouled out to end the game.
Burlington will look to get back into the win column when it begins a four-game series with the Beloit Snappers on Saturday night. Pat Lowery will take on Seth Streich at 6:30 p.m. at Community Field. This will be the first time that the Oakland Athletics affiliate is at Community Field since last year when they were the Burlington Bees.
