Frederick Keys News Release

SALEM, VA -Mike Yastrzemski stroked a go-ahead single in the top of the 10th to lead the Frederick Keys to a 7-6 win on Tuesday night at LewisGale Field. Ahead by five runs, the Keys saw the Sox score fine unanswered between the fifth and sixth innings, until the visitors regained the lead in extras. The win was the Keys fourth straight, equaling the club's longest winning streak of the season.

The Keys wasted little time against Cody Kukuk, as the orange and black forced the southpaw to throw 29 pitches in the first inning. Yastrzemski earned a four-pitch walk to open the game before moving to second on a single by Glynn Davis. Two batters later, Michael Burgess connected on a sac-fly to center, while an RBI single by Jason Esposito capped off the scoring.

Kukuk faced the minimum in the second, but before the home-second could underway, the rains started to fall and the tarp was called for. The game would be delayed for 30 minutes, but the Keys would add to their total a short time after the game resumed. Following a leadoff double by Davis, and a deep fly ball out by Trey Mancini, Burgess connected on a broken-bat single through the right side.

In the fourth, the Red Sox plated their first run off Brady Wager thanks to an RBI single by Aneury Tavarez, before both sides posted three apiece in the fifth. With one out, Mancini singled and advanced to third on a double by Burgess. That set the table for Esposito, who tallied his second and third RBIs of the game with a double down the leftfield line. The former Commodore then stole third and came home on a sac-fly by Wynston Sawyer.

Down 6-1, the Red Sox countered with five unanswered runs over their next two at-bats. Jordan Weems doubled high off the leftfield wall and moved to third on a bunt single by Jose Vinicio. Both proceeded to score on a triple by Matty Johnson, while a single by Mike Miller made it 6-4.

Salem tied things up in the sixth, as Wager reached the end of his night. Tavarez led off with a single, stole second and scored on a base hit by Vinicio. That ended Wager's night, as manager Luis Pujols turned to Miguel Chalas in the bullpen. Greeted rudely by Johnson, the speedster tripled to bring in the tying run.

Neither side would score in regulation, as Chalas worked around a runner at third in the bottom of the ninth. Facing Kyle Martin in the 10th, Adrian Marin connected on a one-out single. With Marin in motion, Joel Hutter came through with a base hit through the box to put runners at the corners for Yastrzemski. Hitless on the day, the Keys leadoff man singled to right to give the Keys a 7-6 edge. Jesse Beal closed the door in the 10th.

Chalas (2-3) earned the victory, allowing four hits over 3.1 innings while he walked one. Martin (3-3) suffered the loss, giving up a run on four hits over 3.1 stanzas. Beal earned his second save in as many opportunities.

The Keys go for a series win on Wednesday night, against Salem right-hander Justin Haley (6-3, 2.83). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Salem Memorial Ballpark, and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source. Frederick returns to Harry Grove Stadium on July 11, when the Potomac Nationals come to town. For ticket information, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
