WINSTON-SALEM DASH (11-9, 41-48) vs. MYRTLE BEACH PELICANS (11-9, 55-33)
RHP Tony Bucciferro (6-7, 3.81 ERA) vs. LHP Chad Bell (3-0, 3.26 ERA)
7 p.m. - BB&T Ballpark (Winston-Salem, N.C.) Game #90 (Home Game #46)
WINSTON OVERCOMES SIX-RUN DEFICIT The Dash trailed 9-3 through four innings, but Winston-Salem plated a season high-tying eight runs in the sixth and stunned Myrtle Beach 13-9 on Tuesday at BB&T Ballpark. In that deciding frame, the Dash sent 12 men to the plate. Jason Coats scored twice in the frame, and his second hit was a two-run double that gave Winston-Salem the lead for good. After J.B. Wendelken struggled, the duo of Sean Hagan and Brad Goldberg blanked the Pelicans over a combined 5.2 innings to earn a win and save, respectively.
OFFENSIVE FUN In Monday's series opener, Winston-Salem's bottom four hitters combined for eight hits in 16 at-bats, while the top five mustered just one knock. In Tuesday's come-from-behind win, all nine starters had at least one hit, and six of them recorded multi-hit efforts. All but one Dash hitter scored one run or more, and seven drove home at least one tally. The Dash mustered a season-high 18 hits, which represent the highest total of hits given up by Myrtle Beach this season.
COMEBACK DASH Winston-Salem rallied from a six-run deficit for the first time since August 14, 2012, when the Dash walked off with a 10-9 win over Salem. This marks the second-biggest comeback by Winston-Salem in a victory during the Dash era. The Dash fell behind Salem 7-0 before battling back for an 8-7 triumph over the Sox on May 22, 2009, at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash netted their 17th come-from-behind victory of the season on Tuesday, but it was their first since June 26.
MARJAMA MASHING Playing on consecutive days for the first time since June 14, catcher Michael Marjama is 6-for-8 with four runs scored in the first two games of this series. The Granite Bay, Calif., native had not recorded a multi-hit game since June 4 at Carolina. In the last two games, Marjama has raised his 2014 average 26 points to .246. He is not in the Dash's lineup on Wednesday.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE The Dash lost seven of their first nine games against Myrtle Beach this season. During these contests, Winston-Salem hit just .193 (55-for-285) with 20 total runs, and the Dash had never eclipsed the five-run mark in any of those games. On the flip side, the Dash boast a .391 team average (27-for-69) and 19 runs over the last two nights against a Myrtle Beach staff that is second to Wilmington in the Carolina League with a 3.45 earned run average.
INNINGS EATER Winston-Salem starter Tony Bucciferro is tied with Carolina southpaw Ryan Merritt for the league lead with 104.0 innings of work. This duo shares third place in all of High-A baseball in innings of work, with former Dash left-hander Spencer Arroyo leading the way with 110.0. Bucciferro has worked into the sixth inning in 13 of his 17 previous outings, though he did only get through five frames in his only effort against Myrtle Beach thus far this season (May 6).
BREAKING TRENDS Outfielder Keenyn Walker emphatically snapped an 0-for-20 slump with a three-hit showing on Tuesday. This marked his first such effort since netting three knocks in back-to-back games with Winston-Salem from July 26-27, 2012. Also, infielder Cleuluis Rondon is 4-for-8 with five RBIs and three runs scored in the first two games of this set after starting his career with one hit in his first 17 at-bats. Defensively, the Dash did commit three errors on Tuesday, which snapped a 30-inning errorless streak dating back to Friday's loss to Wilmington.
DASH DOTS The Dash can claim sole possession of first place in the Southern Division for the first time since April 20, 2013, with a win and one loss from Carolina at Lynchburg...The Mudcats and Hillcats must finish Tuesday's suspended game and play another on Wednesday...The Dash are 12-1 at home when scoring six-plus runs.
